Eitan Steinberg's "טווייה" ("Spinning") was composed in 2016 for vocalist Etty BenZaken & Modalius Ensemble as part of their project "Liberty, Otherness, Responsibility". The text of the piece is a short excerpt from a novel by Israeli author Ronit Matalon, an excerpt describing thin lines of memory that echo love and kindness. Eitan Steinberg used only fragments of this text and composed the music in a way that echoes the text’s idea: The musicians’ parts are written without a score, with no bar lines, rhythm marks or dynamics. The performers are required to perform the piece with careful listening and collaboration, with full responsibility towards each other.
lyrics
Hebrew text by Ronit Matalon from her novel “The Sound of Our Steps”:
